New 1.6L I-4 EcoBoost® Engine
The available new 1.6L EcoBoost inline four-cylinder engine combines three different technologies -- turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) -- to enhance both performance and efficiency. Features include:
Direct fuel injection
Piston cooling jets for durability
Adaptive knock control
It's in city driving where the Fusion Hybrid excels. At lower speeds, the Fusion Hybrid can travel in electric mode. When the gas engine does kick in, at higher speeds or when passing or merging, the transition is seamless. The Fusion Hybrid also features visual aids to help you drive more efficiently. The SmartGauge® with EcoGuide cluster uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the centermounted speedometer. Watch the display grow leaves as your short-term driving efficiency increases. As your long-term driving becomes more efficient, more vines and leaves are displayed. Included in the available SYNC® with MyFord Touch® eight-inch touch-screen display is the Hybrid Energy Flow Display. It lets you track the powertrain's four modes of operation -- Hybrid Drive, Electric Drive, Gas Engine and Idle Charging, plus instant and average fuel economy.
Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle
The new Fusion Energi plug-In hybrid electric vehicle is designed to be efficient, thanks to combining a high-voltage battery and electric motor with a gasoline engine. The plugin capability allows you to charge the battery using either a 120-volt or a 240-volt outlet upgraded with electric vehicle supply equipment. By doing so, you extend the distance the Fusion Energi can travel in all-electric mode. Its high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack provides enough power to operate in all-electric mode for short commutes. To lessen any concern you may have about driving range, when the battery is depleted or more power is required, the vehicle functions as a traditional gas-electric hybrid. The Fusion Energi also features a Regenerative Braking System, allowing it to capture braking energy and store it for later use. PHEV available early 2013. Gas and HEV available fall 2012. PHEV available early 2013. Pre-production model shown.
Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)
Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to deliver precise feel and control at higher speeds, and the required assistance at slower speeds when needed. EPAS features pull-drift compensation and active nibble control. Pull-drift compensation technology detects road conditions -- such as a crowned road surface or crosswinds -- and adjusts the EPAS to compensate. The active nibble control feature uses the EPAS motor to reduce unwanted vibrations in the steering wheel. The result is a comfortable driving experience.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
Whether the road is filled with gravel, covered with snow or soaked by rain, available AWD helps provide sure-footed traction. Because AWD is fully automatic, it delivers power to the wheels needing it the most when wheelslip is detected.
Six-Speed SelectShift Automatic® with Paddle Activation
You don't have to know how to drive a manual transmission to enjoy the sporty feel of shifting gears. Using race-inspired technology, the available steering wheel-mounted paddles let you easily and quickly go from gear to gear without taking your hands off the wheel.
So Advanced So Simple to Use
The technology features in the 2013 Fusion keep you connected -- with the world, with your car. Available SYNC® with MyFord Touch® allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road while you play your favorite music, control the interior climate, make or receive phone calls and receive turn-by-turn directions.* Available SYNC® Services provides traffic alerts, 911 Assist®, Vehicle Health Report and more. SmartGauge® with the EcoGuide cluster, standard on Fusion Hybrid, provides information to help you drive more efficiently. There are also available features that do everything from warning you of vehicles in your blind spot to parallel parking your car with the help of ultrasonic sensors. *Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. Only use SYNC/MyFord Touch/other devices, even with voice commands, when it is safe to do so. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. SYNC Services availability varies by model and may require a subscription. Traffic alerts and turn-by-turn directions available in select markets. Message and data rates may apply. The vehicle's electrical system (including the battery), the wireless service provider's signal and a connected mobile phone must all be available and operating for 911 Assist to function properly. These systems may become damaged in a crash. The paired mobile phone must be connected to SYNC, and the 911 Assist feature enabled, in order for 911 to be dialed. Gas and HEV available fall 2012. PHEV available early 2013. Pre-production model shown.
SmartGauge® with EcoGuide Cluster
This innovative EcoGuide gauge cluster on Fusion Hybrid provides real-time information to help you optimize efficiency. SmartGauge uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. Watch the display grow leaves as your short-term driving efficiency increases. As your long-term driving becomes more efficient, more vines and leaves are displayed. A tutorial built into the display lets you choose one of four data screens for the level of information you want -- Inform, Enlighten, Engage or Empower -- and explains your options within each. Steering wheel-mounted controls make it all easy. All levels can indicate instant fuel economy; fuel economy history; odometer; engine coolant temperature; plus trip data including fuel economy, time-elapsed fuel economy and miles to empty. Gas and HEV available summer 2012. PHEV available early 2013.
Active Park Assist
While you're driving slowly near parking spots, simply activate available active park assist and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once a spot that's big enough is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. All you do is control the shifting, accelerating and braking.
Designed to be Green
From powerplants that enhance efficiency to an aerodynamic design and seating that utilizes recycled material, the 2013 Fusion is designed to be environmentally conscious. The Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-In hybrid are each powered by a combination high-voltage electric motor and 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gasoline engine. A new 1.6L I-4 EcoBoost® engine is designed to be fuel efficient without compromising on power. There's also the available Automatic Start-Stop System that shuts the engine down when you come to a stop and seamlessly restarts it when you release the brake. Very smart. Just like the 2013 Fusion. Gas and HEV available fall 2012. PHEV available early 2013. Pre-production model shown.
