Want to know what capability in a full-size pickup truck is all about? Read on. The Ford F-150 can haul
more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors.* And F-150 has a fully boxed frame that's the strongest in its class.* Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks can subject it to, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough® to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup. And this, at the end of the day, is what capability is all about.
The F-150 gives you best-in-class trailer-towing capability (11,300 lbs.)* with the added confidence and stability of standard Trailer Sway Control (TSC)** and an available factory-integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC). What's more, the selectable tow/haul mode on the standard 6-speed automatic transmission compensates for altitude, grade and load to aid performance, especially when you're driving up steep grades or down extreme slopes. You can choose the Trailer Towing Package or the optional Max Trailer Tow Package ? a special group of heavy-duty towing upgrades.
Trailer Sway Control
Trailer Sway Control (TSC) builds on the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) system to help maintain trailer control through selective wheel braking and reduced engine power.* The result is noticeable stability and control, which provides greater driver confidence when towing the largest loads.
The F-150 continues its tradition of delivering best-in-class* payload capability (3,060 lbs). F-150 also has the most spacious cargo box (81.3 cu. ft.) in its class.* And that's not all. Two class-exclusive available features, the tailgate step and box side steps, provide easier access to all that payload capability.
AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®)
AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) uses a combination of reduced engine power and selective wheel braking to help the driver maintain control.* Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and RSC® will automatically use its gyroscopic sensors to measure vehicle roll and turning rates, then apply the proper response to help keep your vehicle under control.
Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
The F-150 offers an available fully integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC).* This first-in-class feature** synchronizes vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking (even with the heaviest loads) to provide added driving control and confidence.
With gas prices on the rise, Ford responds by offering on average the most fuel-efficient lineup of full-size pickups.* The F-150 engine lineup begins with the 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 that delivers not only best-in-class standard V6 horsepower, but also class-leading** fuel economy with its EPA estimated 16 city/23 highway/18 combined mpg (4x2). Following the 3.7L is the available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 with the most horsepower and torque, plus the highest payload and towing capability, of any small-displacement V8.** With all its power, the 5.0L delivers an EPA-estimated 21 highway miles per gallon. Next in line is the 6.2L V8 with its best-in-class** horsepower and torque. And there's the available EcoBoost® engine, designed with Direct Injection technology and Twin Turbocharging for a combination of power, efficiency and capability that's unequaled in its class.
How does an engine achieve impressive fuel economy and at the same time deliver excellent performance? Advanced technology is a big part of the answer ? and a major reason why Ford offers the most fuel-efficient full-size pickups.*
- Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) is standard in the 3.7L V6, 5.0L V8 and EcoBoost® engines. With its precise variable, yet independent, control over intake/exhaust valve timing, TI-VCT helps make possible high fuel economy numbers as well as power ratings.
- Innovative EcoBoost engine uses the precise fuel delivery of Direct Injection at each cylinder plus the high-performance capability of Twin Turbocharging.
- Electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission, standard with all engines, has close-ratio gearing optimized for low-end performance and high-end efficiency.
- Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) System is yet another feature that saves fuel. In place of the conventional hydraulic pump that draws power from the engine, EPAS uses a more efficient electrically actuated motor.
Ford engineers drew from their extensive experience using direct injection technology and turbocharging in diesel engine development and created the innovative EcoBoost® engine option that's unsurpassed in combined power, efficiency and capability. Direct injection produces a cooler, denser charge that generates more power per every drop of fuel, while the two small air-to-air intercooled turbochargers spool up much more quickly than a single large turbo. What you experience is instantaneous low-end torque responsiveness with virtually no turbo lag. EcoBoost generates 90 percent of its amazing 420 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. And can it tow? F-150 with EcoBoost has best-in-class maximum towing capability at 11,300 lbs.** Best-in-class payload, too, at 3,060 lbs.** The EcoBoost engine underwent over 1,900 hours of testing at full-boost conditions, as well as thermal testing to simulate 10 years of operation in the harshest environments. So EcoBoost is up to any task you can give it ? and then some.
The available 5.0L Ti-VCT 4V V8 generates an impressive 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. So not surprisingly, the 5.0L V8 has the most horsepower and torque, plus the highest towing and payload capacities, of any small-displacement V8 engine.* And it flexes all this muscle while delivering an EPA-estimated 21 highway miles per gallon.** The 5.0L is engineered with Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) technology. Ti-VCT allows for variable control of the intake and exhaust camshafts, optimizing combustion at full load to increase power and low-speed torque. It also enables variable valve overlap, which improves cold start operation with lower exhaust emissions. Other notable features: a high-strength aluminum engine block, optimized camshafts and 10.5:1 compression ratio to help maximize low-speed torque, and a cylinder head designed to increase airflow. Along with its potent V8 power and Flex Fuel capability, the 5.0L delivers proven Built Ford Tough® durability.
6.2L V8 Engine
The available 6.2L V8 features a single overhead cam valvetrain with dual-equal variable cam timing. The large bore (4.02") allows for larger intake and exhaust valves for improved engine breathing, while the short stroke (3.74") makes higher engine speed possible for increased horsepower. The 6.2L has lightweight aluminum cylinder heads and pistons for efficiency and employs a cast iron cylinder block for durability. There are other impressive specs. But the ones you're no doubt most interested in are those you can really feel: power ratings of 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque that no other engine in its class can match.* And if you're into towing for business or recreation, how does a best-in-class 11,300-lb. tow rating sound?* The 6.2L V8 is optional in the F-150 Lariat SuperCrew, King Ranch and Platinum; standard in Harley-Davidson® and SVT Raptor.
SelectShift Automatic® Transmission
The 6-speed SelectShift Automatic® transmission with tow/haul mode lets you operate in one of two modes of operation. (1) Progressive Range Select lets you toggle on the shift lever to reduce the range of available gears while in Drive. Tap down into Range Select mode and the display shows the available gears and highlights the one in use. This feature allows you to limit the use of upper gears when heavily loaded or while towing on grades. (2) Full Manual function lets you pull the shift lever into "M" for manual mode and use the same toggle switch to select the gear desired. The display will show the selected gear and the control system will lock the torque converter and hold that gear for a full manual transmission feel. The SelectShift Automatic is available on XL, STX and XLT, and standard on all other models.
The road might be bad, and the weather too. But you're inside an F-150, where seating comfort and acoustical quality are outstanding and the ride very smooth. And there's the assurance that comes with being surrounded by a sturdy steel safety cage and safety features such as the Safety Canopy® System with side curtain airbags.
The quiet environment inside the Ford F-150 owes much to the Ford 720-degree approach to noise reduction through sound engineering. Its stiff frame and body, shear-style body mounts, door seals, Quiet Steel® and a noise-absorbing headliner all work together to reduce unwanted noise and vibration.
Fully Flat Load Floor
No buttons to push or levers to pull. Simply use one hand to fold up the mechanically articulating rear seats inside the F-150 SuperCrew against the back of the cab. Easily access the class-exclusive fully flat load floor of a cargo compartment that provides 59.9 cu. ft. of usable storage space, the most usable space available in its class.* The seat cushion folds up and out of the way and the doors swing wide open to allow easy access to this large amount of space.
For additional crash protection, the safety cage within the F-150 features advanced hydroformed high-strength steel. Furthermore, dual hydroformed front tubes, located on either side of the engine bay, are shaped to absorb impacts.
Personal Safety System™
The standard Personal Safety System™ uses the electronic crash-severity sensor, a restraint-control module, a driver's seat position sensor, dual-stage front airbags,* Front Passenger Sensing System, safety belt pretensioners, safety belt energy management retractors and front outboard safety belt usage sensors to help protect the driver and front seat passenger.
